Medical Massage:

Swedish Massage

Long, smooth strokes over the body. Swedish massage is done with the person covered by a sheet, a technique called "draping". One part of the body uncovered, massaged, and then covered up before moving on to another part of the body. Swedish massage is the foundation for other types of Western massage, including sports, deep tissue and aromatherapy.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

Hot Rock Massage

Basalt river rocks, hand harvested from the coast of northern Maine, simmering, in warm water, fragrant with aromatherapy, are gently placed on your body to enable the heat to penetrate deep into the muscles while wonderfully massaged over the skin. A hot rock massage is a deeply grounding and nurturing experience.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. The recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort. The result of using trigger points is the elimination of toxins and relaxation in the muscles followed by a significant decrease in pain often found after just one treatment.

Hot Bamboo

Try something new! This exotic fusion of massage and bamboo is a luxurious and revitalizing experience. Warmed bamboo of various sizes is used to massage your muscles, using light and deep strokes to loosen tension. The addition of heat helps relieve stress carried deep in muscles. Nourishing oils applied to the skin help soften and soothe. This massage helps promote circulation and provides a deep sense of relaxation and well-being and revitalizes your soul.

Reiki

A Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. A restorative, energy healing system that utilizes Universal Life Force energy to assist the natural healing force. This healing energy is transmitted through the hands, which helps the body in releasing stress and tension by creating deep relaxation. During a session you remain fully clothed. Loose clothing is recommended.

Neuromuscular Therapy

The utilization of static pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain. This technique manipulates the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons and connective tissue) to balance the central nervous system. In a healthy individual, nerves transmit impulses (which are responsible for every movement, function and thought) to the body very slowly. Injury, trauma, postural distortion or stress cause nerves to speed up their transmission, inhibiting equilibrium and making the body vulnerable to pain and dysfunction. It is therefore necessary to stabilize low levels of neurological activity to maintain normal function and overall health.

Pregnancy Massage

For relief from muscle cramps, spasms, and myofascial pain, especially in the lower back, neck, hips, and legs. This massage increases blood and lymph circulation, which can reduce swelling. This spa treatment reduces stress on weight-bearing joints and enhances the pliability of skin and underlying tissues. Pregnancy massage provides support for the new mother with physical and emotional strains of pregnancy and mothering.
